ABOUT US

Nathan and Tamsey were married in May of 2000 and have three children: Ella, Eoin (Owen) and Eden.  The Smith family lives in North Carolina in the greater Charlotte area. Nathan serves as a band member and tour pastor for the Christian band Big Daddy Weave and as the Executive Director of Encourage Equip, a non-profit organization and ministry dedicated to serving and empowering Christian leaders both inside and outside of the church.

Growing up in the home of a Methodist Pastor, Nathan has been serving The Church his entire life. After being lead to Jesus by his parents at age six he continued to grow in his relationship with God, develop his gifts and talents and employ them in the local church early on. Nathan was hired as the youth pastor of a growing church in South Alabama while he was a senior in high school. After a defining encounter with the Holy Spirit on Father's Day 1998, Nathan was launched into greater opportunities in leading worship for churches and regional events along the Gulf Coast. Nathan and Tamsey planted Christian Life Church in Orange Beach, Alabama, alongside dear friends and pastors in 1999. After serving for four years there, the Lord opened up opportunities for Nathan to record the songs he had been writing and travel as a worship minister.  In the spring of 2004, the Smith's moved to North Carolina to help plant The Refuge Church, where they served on the pastoral team for 21 years and still attend today.

Nathan is an ordained minister through R3 Alliance and his ministry and teaching gift have been affirmed in the local churches he's served and by extension through his music recordings and messages to people across the world.

You can find Nathan on the weekly Portions Podcast with Scott Volk of Together For Israel, a ministry that partners with the Church for the salvation of Israel. You'll also find him on tour with Big Daddy Weave or speaking, teaching and leading worship at an event near you.

OUR MISSION

SERVING SERVANTS AND MINISTERING TO MINISTERS

With over 25 years of real-world experience in church leadership and pastoral ministry Nathan desires to come alongside to encourage and equip those who serve and minister to others.

Research shows loneliness among pastors and ministry leaders to be growing at an alarming rate. Barna research shows over 65% of all who serve in ministry to be struggling in this area. It is often hard for those in positions of leadership and spiritual authority to feel they can have genuine friendships. Encourage Equip wants to go right at that problem through relational support, networking, and simply being a friend who cares and understands.
